Membership requirements

To become a member of the WCBA, you must meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Be admitted to the practice of law and a member in good standing of the Bar of Ohio, or the Bar of any other State or the District of Columbia;
  • Be a full-time member of the faculty of any law school in the State of Ohio;
  • Be any paralegal in good standing certified through the Ohio State Bar Association or any other accredited organization*; or
  • Be currently enrolled and in good standing at an ABA accredited law school.*
* Paralegal and law student members are considered associate members, and cannot vote or hold office.

Dues

Dues are paid annually, in advance (by December 31 of the preceding year). New members are welcome to join at any point in the year, but the association does not prorate dues payments. Dues payments made before December 1 of the calendar year will apply to the current year only, not the next year (e.g. a dues payment made in October 2017 will pay for membership in 2017 only).

Rates are as follows:

  • Attorney dues: $75
  • Paralegal dues: $75
  • Law student dues: Free (lunches not included)

Dues are waived for newly-admitted attorneys from the time of their admission to the bar and for one calendar year after (e.g. an attorney admitted to practice in November 2016 will pay no dues for 2016 and 2017; an attorney admitted to practice in May 2017 will pay no dues for 2017 and 2018). Dues are also waived for any attorney who has been admitted to practice law for longer than 50 years.
